Snorf

The Snorfs by Maarten Janssens

I have been a horrible blogger lately, which is unfortunate because I have a lot of things to share with you, such as this gem by Maarten Janssens. Now that’s a paper gnome! or a Snorf as he calls them. I’m not sure if that means anything, but I think it’s a hilarious word, and I feel like I need like 12 of those things randomly placed in my house.

In other Paper Gnome news, due to popular request (aka one person asked me to), I have reformatted ThePaperGnome calendar for 2013. If you didn’t get one last year, here’s your chance again! They would make excellent Christmas gifts! Don’t miss out! Click the image below to visit my Etsy shop and get one today.

Weekly Menu + Free Recipe Cards

Download these recipe cards free here.

Working third shift has really done a number on my eating habits. I had a hard time figuring out when to eat especially. It seems weird to call a meal breakfast if you’re eating it at 6pm. One thing I’ve found that has helped me keep things organized is to plan out my meals in advance and stick to it. Having food already prepared to bring to work with me helps me avoid the urge to hit up 24-hour fast food joints when I get hungry at work. So here’s what I’m having this week, and links to each recipe if anything sounds good to you too!

To download ThePaperGnome recipe cards, click the image above or the link and it will take you to Google documents, where you can print or save them from the file menu. Then all you have to do is print them on 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock paper and cut them out (4 to a page).

Indoor Garden Party

I was inspired to make these invitations when I lived in a tiny bland apartment. I found these tiny potted plant starters in the dollar section at Target and decided to start a little window garden. How much fun would it be to have a little party where guests would assemble these tiny plants to take home to liven up their apartments? It would also be fun to make terrariums as the take home gift.  Also, in case anyone is interested, the fonts used in this piece are Lobster and Quicksand (both free fonts!).

via: Lobulo Design

I figured I would make today’s post a little early because I plan on sleeping in tomorrow. It’s been a long weekend, but a good one. I went to the graduation of some dear friends at Winthrop University, got sun burnt, and primed a campaign dresser. It was a nice one but the weekends are never long enough to finish everything I’d like. My laundry, for example. That awesome paper kitchen above is by Lobulo Design out of Barcelona and his portfolio is bursting at the seams with colorful, intricate paper illustrations (some NSFW though — read “paper vajayjay”). If you’ve got the privacy, it’s a real treat for the eyes.

Siang Ching of Pattern Matters makes these colorful calendars for each month. The website is awesome and features a .gif for every month on the homepage that is just beautiful. I am in awe of people who can master paper mechanics. I did my senior thesis in college on paper (big surprise) pop-up mechanics and I could feel my brain trying to explode sometimes trying to work out the mechanics of certain pop-up maneuvers.

Helen Friel is a genius, pure and simple. She works out of London and her work is clean and beautiful. These pieces are based off of the art of “hepatomancy” which is the practice of attempting to predict the future by reading the entrails of animals. Kinda gross, but doesn’t it look great translated into paper?

ThePaperGnome Prints!

They’re not up in ThePaperGnome Etsy shop yet, because (story of my life) I ran out of time to take and edit all of the photos, and I don’t want to post them until I do. But this will serve as a teaser and announcement that ThePaperGnome prints will be available for purchase soon. Tell all your friends!
