Indoor Garden Party

I was inspired to make these invitations when I lived in a tiny bland apartment. I found these tiny potted plant starters in the dollar section at Target and decided to start a little window garden. How much fun would it be to have a little party where guests would assemble these tiny plants to take home to liven up their apartments? It would also be fun to make terrariums as the take home gift.  Also, in case anyone is interested, the fonts used in this piece are Lobster and Quicksand (both free fonts!).

Swoon.

hand drawn caligraphy via: Molly Jaques

I am just over the moon about pretty much everything that Molly Jaques does. She posted this sneak peek into a project she’s working on with Nicole of Coral Pheasant and I couldn’t be more jealous of her talent. BRB, practicing my letter forms for hours, you guys.

It’s Raining Men

I don’t know why that song gets stuck in my head every time I work on these bachelorette party invitations. Which, by the way, seems like forever. I started these months ago but was told to put them off to work on other more time sensitive projects. But now it’s May and it’s time to send them out. I blurred out some information in the photos below to protect the identities of my friends.

Hey Mr. Postman

I just dropped a batch of graduation announcements in the mail for a certain Emily Bowie, and I think they turned out pretty cute. I am especially loving the Jessica Hische typography forever stamps (available at your post office now!)

envelopments

One of my professors from college, who specializes in wedding paraphernalia sent me an amazing resource for paper recently.  I have been on the fence between whether I should make my own envelopes by hand (and if so, where was I going to get quality paper in the right size to do so) or purchase them. I didn’t know if that was selling out because then I didn’t actually design or make the envelopes, all I did was pair one with my invite design. Then I found envelopments . They let you personalize every aspect down to the envelope liners and what folds you want. Unfortunately this isn’t a small scale “I’ll take 2 of those, please” operation. You have to apply to be able to order and you have to give them your Tax ID number. My professor recommended that I also look into getting a sole proprietor business license as well. It’s a little overwhelming but I can tell by the shining review and recommendation from my professor, as well as the high quality beautiful designs they have posted on their website, like the Rosalie & Jacob design, seen above, that utilizing what envelopments has to offer would do wonders for me and my fledgling business.  Just wanted to pass on the resource for anyone who might find themselves in the same situation as me.

Sneak Peek

I ran out of time before work to really photograph the new invitations the way I would like to, so here’s a quick shot of one of them, and I’ll have the others posted later tonight or probably tomorrow so I can use better lighting. Sorry for the delay.

why, hello there!

I am in awe of the creative out-of-the-box approach Etsy shop owners Maddy & Seth Lucas have taken with their shop Ellothere. Each invitation in their shop is more impressive and unique than the last and they seem to have cornered the market on unique wedding invitations. This Vintage Polaroid design is my favorite, though. How cool is that?

I would be so psyched to get one of these in the mail. That, for me, is what makes good invitation design. Something that surprises you and is a joy to open, look at, touch and feel.

Modernity

I always hated the word “modernity.” Brings back horrible flashbacks to art history. Maybe it was just the way my professor pronounced it, but it rubs me the wrong way. Definitely not the case with these super modern graduation announcements by Anna Salazar of yummyberries, which are bold and graphic.  Nicely done, Anna.

I think they’re just perfect for a high school graduation. The senior photo in the inside is a nice touch.

The Bar is Stocked

The finished product! I was happy with these invitations and so was my client. I added the design to my shop if you’re interested in purchasing. I’m thinking about making a new series of printable designs too that I’d like to have up soon. Any specific printables you’d like to see? Birthday cards? Invitations?

Taco Time

But really, is there ever a wrong time for tacos? I think not. That’s why this year for my birthday, I’m having a little get together with friends and tacos and maybe a little gambling. This is the invitation I came up with for my friends and family. The design comes in two options: The Senor and The Senorita. I did this because I wanted to send invites to people who in some cases live together (my sister and her roommate, for example) but I didn’t want to send them the exact same invitation.

I put this design for sale in my shop which you can access by clicking the link at the top of the page, or clicking on any of the pictures above. You can also find them in ThePaperGnome etsy store as well. You may be planning your own mexican fiesta birthday party, or maybe a Cinco de Mayo celebration, and these invitations might be just your cup of tea.
