Yer a Wizard, ‘Arry.

via: Jared Andrew Schorr

Jared Andrew Schorr just showed this piece he commissioned for a friend of Diagon Alley and I am just in awe of his talent. He’s one of my favorite paper artists, and his website is pretty much my favorite on all of the internets.  And I do mean in ALL OF THE INTERNETS. You should check it out. It’s a good time.

More than anyone on the earth

Absolutely gorgeous hand drawn type (and e.e. cummings!) by Etsy shop OhMyDeer of Nashville, Tennessee. Only $12 for an 8 x 10″ print. It’s absolutely lovely but I wish it was bigger.

Monday Link Love

This one even comes with a tutorial in case you want to try your own hand at papercrafting. Fair warning: once you start, it becomes an obsession.

Those are the cut paper illustrations that caught my eye today. Check out the pages of each artists and check back next Monday for more papercraft goodness.

I’m back with another website related post. I appreciate the feedback on yesterday’s post. This is what I put together for the “Contact” Page.

Clicking on the PORTFOLIO link, would bring you to this page, which would have a overview of projects I’ve worked on. And when you click on an individual project, such as the Picnic basket project I shared a few days ago, it would bring you here:

where you could read more about each individual project. Clicking on the red circles at the bottom would show different pictures of that particular project. I haven’t designed a page yet for the FAQs, because honestly, I don’t get asked enough questions to do that just yet. I want the STORE link to directly link to my Big Cartel shop instead of the setup I have now where you have to click a link that takes you to another link. Maybe I would put a link to my Etsy shop on the side bar under the Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest logos? It’s still a work in progress, and I welcome any feedback or constructive criticism. I’m super excited about what I have so far though and I’m anxious to get it up on the site as soon as possible.

working on a website

So I’ve been running this here little site since December and I’m a little over the whole theme-straight-from-wordpress thing and I’ve been working on designing a new layout for the website. I want ThePaperGnome’s website to reflect who I am and what I blog about more, so this is what I have come up with. This is my mockup for the home page of ThePaperGnome, and I would appreciate any feedback you have. I honestly have no idea when I’ll be able to put this design into effect because I have little to no experience coding a website, but I figure this is a nice starting point. Anyone with coding experience know how complicated/possible this design would be? Please let me know!

Monday Link Love

via: Travis Betz

So this weekend I went to see Prometheus with my boyfriend… wow. On the outside, it seemed like a pretty okay movie: everything looked great, as gory as I expected it to be, didn’t confuse me too much while watching it. But when you go back and think about what you just watched… so many loopholes and unanswered questions. Not sure how I feel about it. I do know how I feel about this papercrafted Prometheus trailer by Travis Betz. Fantastic! It’s like delightfully horrible. The end with Michael Fassbender looking at his finger saying, “Big things have small beginnings” just kills me. His eyes!

In honor of that gem, this weeks Monday Link Love is going to be all about the video. Here are more papercrafted animation videos for your viewing pleasure!

Paper Picnic Baskets

Sorry about the lack of posting yesterday. I was all in a rush because I had a job interview for a graphic design position! I think it went well, but I won’t know if I got the job for up to 2 weeks, which is a bummer. I feel really good about it though and the man who interviewed seemed pretty impressed with my work. Wish me luck!

In the mean time, here’s a piece from my portfolio that I particularly love. It’s a picnic basket kit woven out of paper. I think that it’s super cute and the best part was it only cost $6 to make.

La Valse Botanique

La Valse Botanique from Graça Brohm on Vimeo.

Here’s a nice little video by Graça Brohm, an artist from Amsterdam who works with paper. The video above is a stop motion, paper cut animation about flowers trying their best to impress a bumblebee and it’s dapper little rider. Check it out!

FurTurtle

There were a lot of exceptionally talented vendors at Bonnaroo selling everything from artwork to clothing to handmade instruments. My favorite, hands down, was FurTurtle, hosting the work of Salt Lake City, Utah based illustrator Travis Bone, who designs and prints these beautiful show prints. There are so many to look at on his website, both current and from years past but the ones above are my favorite. I bought the Felice Brothers and the Okkervil River band posters at Bonnaroo and I can’t wait to get them framed. They are super nice quality posters, and each is signed and numbered (there’s a limited number of prints for each design). Please check out his website and if anything strikes your fancy, you can order the posters directly from the website, with most of them going for around $25.
