I am over the moon about Brittney Lee’s paper sculpt work. Her website is a little outdated and difficult to navigate (you have to search and search to get to all the goodies but it is so worth it.) This piece is obviously a tribute to The Lion King, and she has several other Disney pieces as well as a stunning Muppet-themed piece. She sells prints of her illustration in her Etsy Shop, but doesn’t seem to offer prints of her papercraft work.

This is a book cover design by Tímea Andorka from Budapest, Hungary for Mario Vargas Llosa’s new book series. I love the colors and textures in this piece and I hope to see more paperwork from Tímea Andorka in the future!

This last piece was done by Gail Armstrong, whose website is chock full of intricate and highly detailed eye candy. You should definitely put aside some time to look through it.

Friday Fact No. 9: I am feeling super overwhelmed. Let’s hope Jenna Sue is right.

Paper Dolls

via Spoonflower

If you haven’t heard of Spoonflower, it’s an awesome website that lets you upload your own designs and have them printed on fabric, allowing you to fully customize any project you’re working on. I thought that was cool enough in itself, but while I was browsing their submissions, I came across this project and it blew my mind. Heidi Kenney of My Paper Crane is using Spoonflower to sell these adorable doll patterns. You buy one fat quarter of fabric (or a yard for a larger doll) and then you assemble it and stuff it according to the directions printed around the doll pieces. How great is that? I would have never thought of using Spoonflower that way but it’s such a great idea. But wait, it gets better. All those tattoos on the dolls? They’re meant to be embroidered on! I absolutely love that! And the kicker is, the pattern she made is scanned from illustrations she papercrafted. Just perfection.

Sharing is Caring

Head over to Oh Happy Day for a charming DIY tutorial by Chiara Albaretti Milott on how to make your own paper calla lilies. They look pretty great paired with that kraft paper.

It’s Naked!

Allow me to introduce you to my campaign dresser. I’m in the middle of refinishing it. I spent 90% of this past weekend sanding this baby to this beautiful blonde wood. I spent the weekend before scrubbing all the hardware with brasso until it sparkled. Next weekend I’m going to use some wood filler on any imperfections then prime it with some Zinsser oil based primer and then I’ll be ready to paint it! I still haven’t decided what color, but I’m leaning towards navy or slate. I’m taking my time making up my mind and with all the steps really, because I want the finished product to be flawless. I didn’t spend nearly a year trying to find a campaign dresser just to rush the process.

Josh Ritter – Love Is Making Its Way Back Home from Josh Ritter on Vimeo.

Starting today’s post off with a mind blowing music video from Josh Ritter, which was made using 12,000 (!) sheets of paper. No special effects were used, say when the paper Josh Ritter is singing along with the words, or during the psychedelic color explosion at the end. That’s all just straight up paper. Amazing. The video was made by Prominent Figures, but I couldn’t find source info as to the individuals who actually cut those 12,000 sheets of paper.

This delicious piece of eye candy is one page of paper artist extraordinaire Jared Andrew Schorr’s website. If you click the photo, you can visit his site and take a look around. Clicking the Illustration sign will take you to his portfolio which is overflowing with any number of works that I could have featured here, but I just couldn’t get over the web design. It’s got so much fun and depth and character. Kudos, Jared Andrew Schorr. Kudos.

I just love the colors in these strange and wonderful illustrations by Eiko Ojala, a paper artist from Estonia. His site says that these were personal illustrations for a solo exhibition called “Teine lõige” at Von Krahl, Tallinn in Estonia.  I don’t understand half of those words, but his work is beautiful.

ThePaperGnome Prints!

They’re not up in ThePaperGnome Etsy shop yet, because (story of my life) I ran out of time to take and edit all of the photos, and I don’t want to post them until I do. But this will serve as a teaser and announcement that ThePaperGnome prints will be available for purchase soon. Tell all your friends!

Blame it on The Weather

I had plans to photograph some new items for the ThePaperGnome Etsy shop today, but when I woke up it was gray skies and rain puddles all around. Not optimal conditions for photographing, so I will have to put that off until the weather cooperates with me. In lieu of my scheduled post, here are some rain-related prints from Etsy.
